Founded in 1984 by four prize-winning graduates of the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris, the Parisii Quartet won early acclaim with its triumphs at three major international competitions: Banff (1986), Munich (1987), and Evian (1987). Since then, the Parisii has been much in demand on the European concert circuit, and since 1995 they have made regular, highly successful tours of the United States. Their repertoire encompasses all the major classical and romantic works for string quartet, but they are particularly noted for their interpretations of works by French composers. Their extensive discography includes recordings of quartets by Debussy, Ravel, Franck, and Fauré; their recent recording of Milhaud’s 16 string quartets won the Grand Prix Charles Cros.
